Desert Roots is a local salon in the northeast heights of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Co-owned by Diana Chaparro and Erin Sanchez that opened in July 6th, 2021.We want to create a space for not only our clients but our employees, that feels warm, welcoming and inviting. Where people can have the freedom to express their inner beauty, creativity, have fun, relax, feel good about themselves and maybe even share a good laugh.
It is important to us that everyone who sits in our chair is treated with individualism, and is heard and seen. We strive for our clients to leave the salon with confidence and joy.

The Team
We’re perfectly imperfect, and that’s what makes us us. We’re a group of individuals who are so different, yet so much the same. We’ve faced frustrating times and celebrated joyful days. We’ve hit bumps in the road, climbed steep hills, and shared monumental moments along the way.
Every challenge brings us a new lesson. We’ve found ourselves in unfamiliar situations that pushed us out of our comfort zones, but each one helped us grow. Both as individuals and as a team.
Our girls? They’re the real deal. Sassy, kind, and full of genuine love. They share a deep passion for making people feel beautiful, seen, and heard. It’s not just about the service—it’s about the connection.
They lift each other up, step in when someone needs help, and bring their whole hearts into everything they do.
Building a strong team isn’t always easy. It takes growth, vulnerability, riding the ups and downs together, and a whole lot of love. And through it all, we’re beyond proud of how far we have come and what we continue to build. These women are the heart and soul of it all, and we truly love them.

Hi there, I’m Diana, one of the co-owners of Desert Roots Salon. I’ve been behind the chair since 2014 and a business owner since 2021.
I love creating a fun and safe space for our team and clients—and of course, crafting beautiful hair!
Hair is my art, my passion, my career. I consider myself a well-rounded stylist, offering everything from highlights and balayages to gray blending and lived-in hair. I create cuts ranging from long, luscious locks to short, beautiful pixies.
In this field, I truly believe learning never stops. I always strive to improve my craft and lead our team to success.
When I’m not in the salon, I enjoy traveling, camping, snowboarding, indulging in delicious food, and spending quality time with family and friends—not to mention my four-legged baby, Olive.
I love meeting new people and being a listening ear while giving them a great experience and beautiful hair. If you’re new to our space and get a chance to sit in my chair, I’m looking forward to meeting you! ❤️

My name is Erin and I am one of the Co-owners at Desert Roots Salon. My career started in 2014 when I was hired at a previous salon here in Albuquerque. I continued working at the same salon for about 6 years before I decided to venture off on my own. It took about a year to finally open our doors in 2021 and we have been hustling ever since.
I take pride in my work and always strive to continue learning and educating myself, not only with the latest hair trends but also on how to run the business better and more efficiently.

My name Is Joey and I am honored to say that I have been doing hair since 1994. I’ve been at Desert Roots Salon since they opened their doors in 2021 and it’s the best decision I’ve made in my career. I truly love my salon family, and I’m honored when my clients put their trust in me.

Yvonne is a passionate and dedicated stylist based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She trained with Aveda, graduating in 2014. She has been working in craft salons for the past 5 years, shifting her career into a more specialized experience for anyone who sits in her chair. She bases her services and success on connection, trust, community, and aspiring to make people feel like their most authentic selves. She loves to create romantic, soft, and lived-in looks to enhance the natural beauty of her clients.

I’m Janessa, I have been doing hair since 2017. I specialize in color transformations and radiant blending services. Every day, I get to make women feel beautiful and happy, and honestly, that’s the best job ever! When I’m not working my magic in the salon, you’ll find me chasing after my beautiful daughter, who keeps life exciting. I’m a total foodie at heart, and I love jamming to music and diving into art. I can’t wait to have you in my chair—let’s make your hair dreams come true and have some fun while we’re at it!

Hi, I’m Abbey Joy and I’ve been behind the chair since 2016! My favorite things to do behind the chair are dimensional/lived in color, intentional haircuts, and really anything that is transformative. I want to make you feel like your authentic self and really love who you see in the mirror!
When I’m not at work I’m probably at home cuddling my cat Juniper, listening to music, or binge watching some reality tv.

Hi, my name is Angelina Valdez. I was born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico and I am 23 years old. I graduated with my cosmetology license in May of 2023. Less than a year and a half later I have leveled up from assistant to new talent and am now working as a junior stylist. I have about 4 years of hands on experience under my belt. Doing hair comes naturally to me. Ever since I would use my bratz dolls to practice on as a child to practicing on my cousins and sisters throughout my teenage years I knew I had to turn my passion into my livelihood. I love learning and growing in this industry. I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone to try new things because I know that by doing that I will become a well rounded stylist. The most rewarding part of being a stylist is forming relationships with my clients. Being with my clients genuinely feels like catching up with friends. I’m excited to continue learning and meeting new people throughout my journey. I can’t wait to see all of your beautiful faces!

Hey there, lovely ladies!
I’m Sylvia Gallegos. From a young age, I have always been captivated by the makeup world. The transformative power of cosmetics fascinated me, but I never thought it could be more than just a hobby. It wasn’t until I met my husband that everything changed. He saw my passion and talent and encouraged me to pursue a career in the beauty industry, believing that I could excel in doing what I loved the most.
Taking his words to heart, I attended cosmetology school at the Aveda Institute of New Mexico in 2020 to hone my skills. After completing my training, I found a job as a hairstylist and worked in a salon for about a year. While I enjoyed working with hair, my true love was makeup. I made the bold decision to leave my job and start my own makeup artistry business.
As my business grew, I found myself missing the art of hairstyling. I realized that I didn’t have to choose between the two – I could do both. I joined Desert Roots Salon, where I could express my passion for hair. I specialize in lived-in blonding, vivid hair colors, and long/medium haircuts.
Making women feel beautiful and confident is a joy and a privilege. It’s incredibly rewarding to see someone’s face light up when they look in the mirror and feel truly happy with the way they look. It’s not just about the outward appearance, but about boosting someone’s self-esteem and helping them to radiate confidence from within. As a professional in the beauty industry, I take great pride in the positive impact that I can have on someone’s life. Every smile, every word of thanks, and every confident stride that follows a makeover is a reminder of why I love what I do. I would love to have you in my chair.

Hi, my name is Alex, I was born and raised in Albuquerque and am a Burqeña through and through! Even though I grew up around the industry, my passion for hair came about by accident while working as a PA for different TV shows. Because of that, I enrolled in cosmetology school and fell in love with doing hair! My mission is to help people fall in love with themselves and their hair again, and again. I live for meeting new people and growing relationships! Outside of doing hair I’m a silly, family loving girl, who loves to draw be with my people, loves fashion, exploring and travel. I started with Desert Roots right out of cosmetology school in March of 2024, and from day one I knew that I was home! For me it’s so much more than hair and I hope to portray that to every single person who sits in my chair.

I’m Alexandra, Salon Coordinator at Desert Roots Salon, where I’ve had the pleasure of forming meaningful connections with my colleagues and our clients. Our collaborative work environment is truly unique. As a mother, my driving force is securing a bright future for my daughters. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and appreciating life’s everyday delights.
